About P. Townley & Sons Funeral Directors
Patrick (Paddy) started off as an ambulance driver in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and when working there he realised that he had so much empathy and sympathy for Bereaved families. He developed an emotional, heartfelt interest in the Funeral industry and felt he had a lot to offer bereaved families and the care of their deceased.
Paddy worked under the guidance of Mother Mary Martin who founded Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She taught him so much about the very important matters of life and death. Mother Mary Martin told Paddy to always remember when he was dealing with deceased to look after them as if they were one of his own and always remember the deceased is someone’s mum or dad, son, daughter, brother or sister and someone’s relative. Paddy has always kept these very wise words close to his heart and looked after everyone in this way. He has passed this invaluable knowledge on to his wife Patricia, his children Barbara, Paula, Maurice and Aidan and all his staff members, who ensure the deceased and all the families they meet are looked after in this way .
Patricia had been involved in the funeral business from the start, making all the important funeral arrangement with the families. She always ensures meticulous attention to detail and gives the care, support and love of a mother to everyone she meets.
Daughters Barbara and Paula followed in the caring profession by becoming Nurses and Aidan and Paula are qualified embalmers with the British Institute of Embalmers. Aidan received the Sheila Dicks award for highest results in his practical embalming exams. Maurice is a carpenter who built and completed the beautiful extension of the funeral home in 2016.
